Adding to its Web 2.0 tagging, blogging, sharing and local offerings, Yahoo has acquired del.icio.us, the other tagging service which when paired with Flickr and Yahoo MyWeb, gives Yahoo the overhand in web tagging.

Search Engine Journal reports :

This has been a huge week for Yahoo and their Social Media – Life Engine direction as they have launched Yahoo Answers and acquired del.icio.us within a 2 day span. If you baseball fans thought that the Winter GM meetings were exciting, just pay attention to Yahoo as they have become the Toronto Bluejays of the Web 2.0 Free Agent Market.

Yahoo’s acquisition of del.icio.us adds to their current gameplan of building a user controlled and socially integrated web content and search experience, complete with tagging, image sharing, customization, blogging and full online communications integration. Yahoo is proactively gearing up to be the information portal of choice for the ‘Always On’ generation.
