Sometimes when browsing blogs, you come across one that seems to reach out to you for one reason or another. That’s how I felt when I visited Jodi McIsaac Martens’ blog. She is a writer by profession, and her skill shines through her personal blog. She describes herself as someone who has always wanted to be a writer, and she seems to be living her dream.

In this blog, you can read about her musings on just about any topic. From a tribute to fathers to her brother to her guilt complex – they’re all compelling posts. Chin Musik is the personal blog of Randy Howard, where he shares his thoughts and experiences. Much like many other personal blogs, the topics featured have a very very wide range. From nights at the Hustler Club (yeah, gentlemen you’ll love it) to reading lists to Facebook to health issues – they’re all covered by this blog.

What might very well set Chin Musik apart is the fact that Randy is fairly consistent with his posting schedule. He tries to make it a point to post at certain days and times, as he believes that “without a deadline, s#*t don’t get done.” More than this, he has a knack for picking topics and writing about them – the posts are quite cohesive and interesting.

Raising Rockstar

Parenting has been dubbed the best job in the world by countless people – and they are probably right! Any parent would tell you that despite all the hardships and issues that one faces when raising a kid, everything is so worth it. While there is no handbook to tell a parent exactly what to do at a given time, you can pick up insights and tips and tricks from those who have been there, done that.

Raising Rockstar is one parenting blog that I highly recommend. It is written by a Mom raising her Rockstar in Hong Kong. It’s not your usual parenting blog. I like how, in some posts, it presents relevant (current) issues to her baby, who would probably be so proud to read this blog when he grows up. Bottom line: parents will love this blog.

A Shared Mind

Everyone has something to say. It’s a question of whether or not other people would like to read or listen to what you have to say. That’s the beauty of the Internet. You can write down your thoughts and stories, publish them, and for sure, you will find people out there who will be able to relate to your work. That’s why personal blogs have flourished like anything.

A Shared Mind is one example of a personal journal that is bound to get the attention of young people. Written and maintained by a young person by name of Alexandra M, this blog is about her struggling relationship with a man. Indeed, her tagline reads: “What happens when a girl meets a dangerous boy and has to put everything back together?”

Expect strong emotions and deep feeling as you read the blog. There are only a handful of posts as of this writing, but there is bound to be more in the future.

Equality

Equality is something we all yearn for, and yet when it comes to practical issues, we have to admit that we still have a long way to go. Just take a look at yourself and observe how you deal with various situations on a daily basis. Do you ALWAYS treat others fairly and equally? Probably not.

On a wider level, there are people who make it their mission to promote equality – and I cannot help but tip my hat to them. Take the people behind Gallant 2000. These people are experts in the realm of equality, diversity, and human rights. In their blog, they promote an awareness that only information can bring about. They cover a wide range of issues – from disasters to the workplace to cultural aspects. This is a highly recommended blog for people who want to go beyond themselves.

Semantic Argument

Being an English teacher by day, I have a penchant for semantics. I love language and I continue to be amazed by it and its evolution. I actually like saying that language is dynamic and that this characteristic makes it all the more interesting.

For likeminded people, the blog Semantic Argument will prove to be a delight. While it also serves as the blogger’s personal journal, there are a lot of posts on language and words. I bet that your vocabulary and knowledge of language in general will expand just by regularly visiting this blog! Mind you, it’s not your boring textbook-like treatment. You’ll actually find yourself chuckling every now and then as you read through the posts. Interesting is an understatement. Trust me.

Here’s another personal blog that might catch your fancy. Arlinicious Bliss caught my eye, thanks to the header. Cute red lettering with hearts and wings reminded me of that little mythical creature called Cupid. I am not partial to such designs, but I thought I’d give the blog a look. The tagline made the decision for me: Embrace life, it’s yummy.

Indeed, this personal blog makes you see just how “yummy” life can be. The blog shares tidbits about the Arlini’s life, and you can expect a mixture of lighthearted banter and serious issues. Don’t you sometimes feel like taking a peek into what another person’s life is like? I like people watching. Lately, I have been sitting at the “park” in the afternoons, just relaxing and letting my mind float. There are a few people here and there, and thinking about what their lives may be is an interesting (if wasteful) way to pass time.

Another way by which we can have a glimpse into other people’s lives is through their blogs, and personal blogs are a great way to do that!
